1st prize: Windows
2nd prize: Ubuntu
3rd prize: Almost all other Linux distro
4th prize: Mac

Mac will remain last unless we can buy it for PCs AND I could something like WINE but for Macs.

1. OS X
2. Windows

....bottom LINUX

Linux is not worth the time and hassle. Windows 7 will be plenty. People who switch to full time linux are stupid and rather arrogant. My 2 cents, avoid headaches Windows has grasp on 90% of the computers in the world. If you see software on the self chances are it will ALWAYS work on windows (all versions included) how often do you see linux compatible

My favorite OS must be Windows XP, it is Basic and well... I have grown up with it! I am now finding myself not wanting to upgrade to Windows 7...

its time to move on  lot of people felt the same with windows NT and 98 they loved it and switching to 2000/XP was too hard. Windows 7 is the superior OS and will remain superior for the next 8 years like XP. Even Vista getting more love. Its a now more enjoyable OS with all the bugs fixed.

Oh gosh 98, I remember the first computer I got ran that. Never liked it, I found XP so much better. But 7 will definitely take the cake, it's just so much better overall.

Linux is fine, but Wine has some issues from my experiences. In my opinion, the open source idea is great but unless the Linux community gets together and create one specific Distro with full support. Any OS made by a big company will be better.

Completely agree with this. Linux is a good idea, but the support just isn't there. However, the first computer I got also ran 98 and I loved it, but that's in the past. Definitely looking forward to spending 8 great years with Windows 7. :D

100% of the time, if there is software that is windows exclusive there's guaranteed to be an open source version that is 50 times better.
I can always get wine to work with any program if I run into any trouble.

i like windows, because it works without me having to do much, i dislike osx, because i do tooo little, it almost runs itself [shiver] (also i have a hatred for all things mac) and linux is fine, but i only run windows apps and it's just that bit easier to run them in windows than in linux

From my experience with Windows 7, on a old computer it's running fast and stable. Sure bugs will appear but nothing to problematic.

Well I just partitioned 100GB of my HDD and put Ubuntu on for a bit of fun.... Lol

My auntie still hasn't got rid of her windows 3 (I think) computer... I just gotta do some benchmarking on that beast :)

Good luck with that, win3 has no real way to be benchmarked.
Win3 computers are so slow they don't have heatsinks on any of their components, my PSP runs faster than any of them do.

I got it out the attic and I gave up waiting for it to boot...

Doesn't cough out any heat though as Night Terror said.

Linux is well and good, and great for servers, but doesn't make much sense as a primary OS. I agree with KBCobra in that regard.

i installed ubuntu onto a usb stick.. now im banned from school computers for a month xD... (yeah school admins are a lil slow they only got round to putting a password on half the school pc's bios and blocking stuff like that on them)
but meh it was better than whatever they use. yeah it seems very good for a few things but the effort to use it for everyday computing is just kinda impractical. i guess if ur very good with linux you can do amazing things, but thats only a minority of people

lol wish my schools pcs were that open, recently they blocked all .exe files other than the ones for they install from working, to stop people playing games D:

before every friday we'd have a massive lan game of counterstrike on the computers [cries]

also back on topic to not get this locked i tried osx the other day and there is way too much dragging and dropping D: i don't even understand why you need to drag and drop the icon into the programs folder when your installing a program :S

also tried linux again and i just failed at everything i attempted to do, even installing my favorite web browser (opera)

Personally I like XP, it's sturdy and is solid. However, I think that for any new computer, Win7 is a must.
