 mouse dpi confused
i got my new mouse the logitech g9x today and i am a bit confused about dpi, it can go as high as 5700dpi or as low as 200 but i'm a bit confused about what dpi does, all that appears to happen when i increase my dpi is the scroll speed of the mouse increases, however i can also change the scroll speed of the mouse seperateley, i'm confused
is it better to set my mouse at a high dpi and lower the sensitivity to my liking, or is it better to leave the sensitivity and decrease the dpi until it's at the sensitivity of my liking?
[edit:] is it better in terms of gaming.

 Re: mouse dpi confused
ahha I second this question on the logitech G5. No idea. & sometimes mine changes dpi from program to program... like if i start up a steam game... my mouse will be on 2000dpi & I have to hit the minus button 1x until it goes back to normal. Not a big deal... but a little confusing.
What I do is leave my dpi @ 1000 (200-2000 range I think) & change my sensitivity in game. I have dpi +/- buttons on the mouse. I can change it to 500 or 2000 pretty quickly. I don't usually change in game though.

 Re: mouse dpi confused
my suggestion is to have the dpi as high as possible and lower the sensitivty. DPI stands for Dots per inch, if it is high then your mouse will be very prosice and track all movments. Quote: The computer industry often measures mouse sensitivity in terms of counts per inch (CPI), commonly expressed less correctly as dots per inch (DPI) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mouse_dpi#Mouse_speed

 Re: mouse dpi confused
For the best results use the highest dpi and lower the sensetivity. This way you have more samples giving u more accurate mouse movements.

 Re: mouse dpi confused
I just pump both up to the max and run with it. I can't get use to a low sensitivity mice, especially after a couple of years of Quake and how speed meant everything.

Some times a mouse is just unusable with max. I know mine is. half an inch on max sensitivity, goes across a whole screen.

Mines cranked up really high, It is even more sensitive than Danimacls. And I like it that way.

 Re: mouse dpi confused
but when mines put to max like 1/2 a cm literally goes from one side of the screen to the other :/

 Re: mouse dpi confused
I would love to get use to lower sensitivity, as when I use lower settings. Sniping becomes such a easy task. But it just feels awkward, plus I have a small mouse pad.

 Re: mouse dpi confused
i dislike my sensitivity being too low because when you need a quick response to something it doesn't work well (also if you ever need a new mousemat i highly recommend the qck+, it's absolutely massive, it covers like half my desk)

 Re: mouse dpi confused
I have my dpi set to 2100, it works great for playing BF2 and CoD4 with the sensitivity set to medium in-game.
