What is Folding@Home?
Folding@Home is a worldwide computing initiative launched by Standford University. It uses distributed computing to process huge amounts of data concerning the folding of proteins. By installing a folding client on your computer (for your CPU or GPU) or on your Playstation3, you can
use your spare processing power to help analyze how proteins fold. The results of your computer's analysis is uploaded back to Standford. The misfolding of proteins can lead to diseases including Alzheimer's, Mad-Cow, CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's, and many Cancers. Distributed folding has already led to a long list of discoveries, and you can help
contribute to this honorable cause by installing a folding client of your own.
What does Folding Have to do with UltimateComputers.net?
UltimateComputers.net has a folding team! When you set up your folding client, you can enter a team number, and your folding stats will count towards those of our team. If enough of you start folding for our team, we can move up in the rankings and show how commited we are to helping this noble cause.
So how do I join?
It's easy! Just go to
folding.stanford.edu and download the client that you want to use. The GPU clients are the fastest if you have a good video card. When you set up your client, be sure to enter the
UC.net team Number: 150164.
